Okumu and Brake Investments LTD. began this adventure in October 2017 to develop a commercial tree farm. The goal was to grow eucalyptus trees for utility poles and lumber and to plant fruit trees for sale in local markets.
The purpose of this project was four-fold:
1. To demonstrate the viability of commercial tree farming and to provide encouragement and guidance for other farmers in Kenya and South Sudan.
2. To provide financial and technical support to SEA Partners in South Sudan.
3. To develop a business that can be replicated in other settings and can provide long-term sustainability.
4. To improve and develop cross-cultural relationships between American and Kenyan entrepreneurs.
While this initial phase of the project is primarily cultivating and planting, we will continue to update our progress and the growth of the trees throughout the site.
